Changing economic conditions test more than a business plan. They test the assumptions behind pricing, costs, cash flow, risk, investment, staffing, and leadership decisions.
I am Jeff Mayfield, an author, artist, and former Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer whose writing draws on more than three decades of experience in accounting, finance, manufacturing, executive leadership, and practical problem solving.
My Business & Leadership work examines economic change, business cycles, financial resilience, strategy, organizational leadership, and the decisions leaders face when conditions change.
I am also developing Brine, Bird and Basin, a book and visual storytelling project exploring Great Salt Lake—its wildlife, landscape, people, changing environment, and shared future.

THRIVING THROUGH THE STORM
I am developing Thriving Through the Storm, a four-book Business & Leadership series focused on helping leaders understand changing conditions, prepare before disruption becomes crisis, and build organizations capable of responding with greater clarity, discipline, and resilience.
The series examines the business cycle, major economic and business disruptions, recurring and emerging business pressures, and the organizational capabilities required to build lasting resilience.
BRINE, BIRD AND BASIN
Brine, Bird and Basin is a developing book and visual storytelling project exploring Great Salt Lake. Through research, writing, photography, and art, I am examining how the basin formed, how water and salt shape life, why birds gather at the lake, how the lake affects people and communities, what is changing, and where practical solutions may be found.
My Business & Leadership writing is grounded in more than three decades of professional experience spanning public accounting, financial leadership, manufacturing, and executive management.
During twenty-four years with a manufacturing organization, I served as Chief Financial Officer, and President and CEO. Periods of growth, organizational change, and severe economic contraction made pricing, cost, cash flow, risk, leadership, and disciplined decision-making operating realities rather than abstract management concepts.
Today, I bring those experiences to my work as an author.
